Mindfulness And Technology
Creativity over Consumption
At the Ecole d’Humanité we value a mindful approach to technology. We strive to equip our learners with the tools, knowledge and skills they need to thrive in the 21st century. At the same time we provide the time they need to unplug from technology and reconnect with the world around them. Students enjoy time and equipment to create digital artworks, write code, or design a new gadget. They also spend time free from devices where they can connect with friends, enjoy the outdoors, or focus on learning.
ChromeBooks + Campfires
One factor in our holistic approach to education is teaching mindfulness in technology. We live in a fast-paced world where digital literacy is essential for success. We recognize that the need for technical proficiency also requires lessons in how to unplug. We set aside device-free time to focus on connecting with the people and the world around us.
The Ecole provides each student with a Google ChromeBook with which to learn, study, and create. With our technological infrastructure, we are fully prepared for online instruction, should the need arise.
Our students have access to a fully-equipped audio-visual studio and a design lab where they can make films, compose music and create digital masterpieces. We offer courses in digital making, design, and digital art. Students can use our technology lab to design a project, bring it to life on our 3-D printer, and then put it to use in the real world!
We value technology - we see it as a tool for creativity - and we also believe in the need for time away from the lure of screens. At the Ecole, there are time limits on tech use, and we encourage our whole community to spend time each day engaging with the world around them. Students have the technology they need to learn, create, and connect with far-flung family at their fingertips. Equally, they have time to unwind, enjoying face-to-face time with their friends around a campfire.
