Individualized Teaching + Learning Supports
An Individual Learning Journey
At the Ecole d’Humanité, we recognize that no two learners are the same, nor will two learners follow an identical educational trajectory.
We believe strongly that each individual will progress at their own rate along their own educational path. Our curriculum, and indeed our educational environment, supports young people as they grow intellectually, socially, emotionally, and creativity, each at their own pace.
Individualized Curriculum
At the Ecole d’Humanité, students shape their own academic course plans guided by their intellectual passions and their educational needs. Each student is paired with an academic advisor, who serves as a guide and a partner in shaping each student's academic journey. Academic advisors counsel students as they select courses to satisfy their intellectual curiosities while meeting curricular and credit requirements. Academic advisors encourage students to select their courses with a view towards their long-term educational and career goals.
Choice in the Classroom
In our small class setting, teachers and students enjoy considerable freedoms. Within the framework of a course theme and subject area, students are free to chase their curiosity and explore niche interests. Students experience choice in how they learn, individualizing their learning experience in dialogue with their teacher and academic advisor.
Learning Support at the Ecole d’Humanité
The Ecole provides a supportive learning environment, allowing space to flourish for students with a wide variety of learning approaches. Our academic environment provides freedom and structure. We recognize the unique talents and abilities of each of our students, and work in partnership with them to help all learners reach their educational goals.
The Learning Center
In our bright and cozy library overlooking glaciers and mountain peaks, students gather for homework help and academic support in our dedicated Learning Center. Teachers are available to guide students through simple homework questions or to offer coaching in organizational skills. Teachers help students approach tough math problems, or workshop an essay, and also offer counsel to students in project management and study skills.
Professional Supports
We offer social or remedial pedagogical support as needed within the framework of our learning supports program. Therapeutic learning measures are guided, carried out on site by qualified specialists such as guidance counselors and learning support teachers, as well as an art therapist and a psychologist.
For students who need additional support beyond what we provide at the Ecole, we can arrange occasional or regular appointments with specialists in our local area.
