Food at the Ecole
Fresh, Local, Sustainable
Our menu focuses on wholesome, balanced, nutritious meals, sustainably sourced from local ingredients. We cater to a variety of dietary needs, including vegetarian, gluten-free diets, allergies, and religious observances.
A Boarding School With Good, Wholesome Food
Our pastoral location in the heart of the Bernese Alps has us surrounded by small family-run farms. We source the majority of our food from local suppliers, and we produce as much as we can in-house.
Meals at the Ecole d’Humanité are balanced, seasonal, and they feature fresh, local ingredients, most of which are sourced from within Switzerland. Each meal offers a vegetarian option, and special dietary needs are accomodated. All of the meat served at the Ecole d’Humanité is sourced locally, and all fish is MSC Certified Sustainable.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served family-style in the Esssaal, our community dining space. Students come together to eat in Families, sharing the highs and lows of their day over a delicious meal.
A snack is served mid-morning, and baskets of fruit are available throughout the day.
Wednesdays are Family Evenings, when students gather together in their family chalets to cook elaborate meals or favorite comfort foods. Students share the responsibilities of planning, cooking, and cleaning together, and many come away from their time at the Ecole with impressive culinary skills, or even better - the ability to leave a kitchen spic and span after a meal!
Our Kitchen Team
Our kitchen team, led by experienced chef Robert Schenk, creates a diverse menu at the Ecole d'Humanité, that includes traditional Swiss dishes as well as international cuisine. The motto of our chef? "Back to the roots, but reimagined!" He v values traditional culinary elements and ingredients while also pursuing a fresh and innovative approach to crafting dishes for Ecole d'Humanité.
Whether it's Bernese apple rösti, fresh milk from the neighboring farm, or locally sourced beef from the butcher, our menu strives to be fresh, local, and sustainable whenever possible.
