Advanced Placement® courses help ambitious students thrive.

Young people thrive when they are encouraged to challenge themselves. Advanced Placement® courses provide a chance for students to stretch themselves academically and up-level their learning.

Advanced Placement® courses allow students to deepen their knowledge, learn essential study skills, and take on college-level work while still in high school. AP® classes provide a challenging learning environment where students can dig deeper into subjects that interest them. They develop essential learning techniques, time management strategies, and study habits that will spur them on to success in high school, university, and beyond.

Many American colleges and universities offer college credit for qualifying AP® exam scores, allowing students to fulfil their post-secondary graduation requirements earlier.

Take an AP® Course or Follow the AP® Path

The Ecole d’Humanité offers two options for Advanced Placement® classes. Students in the US Program can dip their toes into the AP® experience by taking one or two of the AP® classes we offer each year.

Those students who want to dive deeper into the AP® curriculum can enroll in our AP® Path Program.

The AP® Path is an intensive academic program designed to help ambitious students on the road to academic excellence. The AP® Path Program provides  specialized academic guidance, coaching and support as students work towards the goal of graduating as an AP® Scholar with Distinction.

What is the Advanced Placement® Curriculum?

Advanced Placement® is an educational program created by the College Board® which offers a series of college-level courses and examinations to students in secondary schools.

AP® classes follow an academically challenging, standardized course curriculum. They provide students with a deep understanding of a particular field of study and give them a taste of university-level coursework while still in high school. The AP® Program puts a strong emphasis on essential cross-curricular skills such as time management, essay writing, reading primary sources, and presentation skills.

Students can demonstrate their mastery of a particular subject by passing that course’s Advanced Placement® exam. Students who pass their AP® exams with qualifying scores can receive college credit at many American universities, allowing them to advance through their college studies more quickly.

Advanced Placement® Courses at our International School

Each year, the Ecole d’Humanité offers a number of AP® courses spanning a variety of disciplines.

AP® courses follow a standardized curriculum, yet they are taught in the same, small, personalized learning environment as our other courses. In small learning groups of 4-10 students, students benefit from a highly individualized and comprehensive teaching environment where teachers have the time to guide them along the pathway to academic success.

All students in the US Program are welcome to take AP® courses, provided they meet the admissions requirements.

AP® courses of study offered at the Ecole include AP® Biology;  AP® Physics; AP® Chemistry; AP® World History; AP® Human Geography; AP® Calculus AB; AP® German; AP® Environmental Sciences; and AP® Literature and Composition, among others.

In addition, ambitious and academically motivated students can apply to take part in our AP® Path Program, where they receive personalized guidance and support to help them achieve five or more AP® classes with an average score of 3.5 or higher.

Why Take the AP® Courses and Exams?

Advanced Placement® classes give students the experience of completing university-level courses while still in high school and help them prepare to meet the demands of post-secondary education.

AP® exam takers who pass with a good score unlock greater possibilities for study after the Ecole. Taking Advanced Placement® classes can help strengthen a student’s college application. University admissions departments often look favorably upon applicants who have completed AP® courses, as they demonstrate a strong work ethic, a commitment to academic excellence, and a solid knowledge base in their field of study. Students who take Advanced Placement® courses prove a high level of achievement, academic ability, and a capacity for rigorous study, all qualities that are valued by universities around the world.

AP® Program: Admission Options to Universities Worldwide

High school students who graduate with a standard American high school university-prep diploma qualify for university admission in the United States and in Canada.

For students who wish to study in Europe, the United Kingdom, or beyond, a high school diploma is often insufficient for admission. Additional certification, such as an international baccalaureate or international abitur, is often required by European universities.

The Ecole AP® Program can help students with an international outlook gain admission to universities around the world.

Students who wish to attend university outside of the United States can achieve the required credentials by completing a number of AP® courses and passing the corresponding Advanced Placement® exams.

Earn University Credit While in High School With our AP® Program

AP® classes allow students to take on college-level work while still in high school. Many universities in the United States recognize the rigorous nature of the AP® curriculum and offer university credit to students with qualifying scores on their AP® exams. This allows some students to complete their college degree more quickly. In addition, universities in the United States may permit students who have passed AP® exams entrance into more advanced university courses, allowing them to pass over introductory courses.
